Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions
The Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions, established in 1998, is the main instrument to achieve commitments in Article 8(j) and provisions related to indigenous peoples and local communities.

The International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) welcomes the recommendation for a twelfth meeting of the Working Group and urge all the Parties to also support the decision to convene an Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Article 8(j) and other provisions related to IPLCs during the eleventh meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and related provisions of the CBD (WG8J 11) held from 20 to 22 July 2019 in Montreal, Canada.

In recognition of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) is encouraged by the Parties recognition of the valuable contribution that traditional knowledge provides to the understanding and management of indigenous peoples ecosystems during the tenth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and related provisions of the CBD (WG8J 10) held from 13 to 16 December 2017 in Montreal, Canada.
